Our approach
Castle Rural intends to assess what a parcel can sustain — soil, water, habitat, access, community context — before determining how it should be used.
Land may be leased or purchased. The organization's stewardship standard is intended to apply either way, because responsibility for the land does not depend on the form of tenure.
The organization intends to operate transparently, ethically and in compliance with applicable regulations, with accountability to partners and stakeholders.
Practices are expected to change as conditions and knowledge change. Continuous improvement is treated as part of the work rather than an afterthought.
Raw land is one of the few assets whose condition can either improve or degrade entirely because of how it is managed. That is why stewardship, not extraction, is the organizing idea behind this work.
